Well, here goes - a bit about me and what I make.
I'm a 50-something Preston-based crafts artisan and my makings go by the name of Made by a Mzungu. Just to clarify what a "mzungu" is, a "mzungu" is a person of foreign descent and you hear it constantly when travelling in East Africa - a place I have a great love for having travelled there several times (with more travels to come). I'm a person of foreign descent being a first generation Australian and I wanted a name that also tied in with my passion for Africa. Voila - Made by a Mzungu it was.
I started experimenting and making my resin jewellery in early 2011 and made my market debut in October 2011.
What inspires me to create is the beauty and colour that is found in places, nature, everyday items, art, fabrics, designs - just give me colour, colour, colour!
My creations are unique and no two pieces are exactly the same. I make jewellery and accessories incorporating stamps, photos, vintage wallpaper, fabric and crochet.
I also love making one-off pieces for customers and I'm always thinking of new product ideas.
